If pharonic Egypt has to be proud of the pyramids Islamic Egypt has to be proud of the mosque of sultan Hassan that is considered a unique building in the East.
The founder of that Mosque is sultan Hassan who was one of the some of sultan Al Nasir Mohammed the son of Qalwan who was a Turkish sultan to have governed Egypt and the 7th the son of sultan Nasir Ibn Qalwan who reign was be set by many conspiracies.
This is one of the most beautiful and famous monumental Mosques in Cairo, the mosque built exactly opposite the Citadel, building began in 1356 and was completed in 1363 by prince Bashir Akha .
This Mosque is considered one of the greatest works of Islamic architecture, this is a school- Mosque for the 4 rites of Islam .
The courtyard is almost square in shape , each side is about 32 m in length and is overlooked by a tall Iwan , each Iwan is roofed with a tunnel vault with a stone arch , experts consider the arches of the main Iwan to be a miracle of construction.
On the right of the pulpit is a wooden door covered with bronze.
The two doors on either side of the quibla wall lead to the tomb chamber of the sultan and are covered with bronze and gold silver inlay .
The tomb chamber is 21 square meters and 50 M high, the walls are covered with marble to a height of 8 M .
The mosque of sultan Hassan has 2 minarets one of which is 82 M high and is considered one of the highest Islamic minarets, although it is 2 m shorter than the minarets of the Mohammed Ali Mosque which was 500 years later .
The main enterance of the school of the northern end , it is considered as one of the greatest enterance in the Islamic world .
